time for the weekend: Podcasts
My first encounter with the skeptics was on iTunes: In a forum post, someone wrote something about his favorite podcast, The Skeptics Guide to the Universe. It took almost six months and many, many episodes of this weekly podcast until I have asked myself the question: Are skeptics an American phenomenon or is it that elsewhere - in Germany, for example (The answer: There are skeptics in Germany). As someone who likes to listen to podcasts, have I put together a few skeptical podcasts that I listen to. There may be many more (suggestions in the comments are welcome). In particular, I have only one German podcast from the list, but that is one or the other surely master the English language well enough to listen to the podcasts presented here. So if you have the weekend to do nothing better, you hear it out.
The Skeptics' Guide to the Universe
It is hard to present what Dr. Steven Novella and the "Rogues" for years every Saturday. An entertaining and informative show with news, interviews, and my two favorite parts: "Who is this noisy?" - Listeners can guess until next week a noise and "Science or Fiction?" - The "Rogues" to guess which is invented by three messages.
For Good Reason
For Good Reason is the podcast of " James Randi Educational Foundation . JREF President DJ Grothe, like the namesake of the JREF skilled magician, interview interesting guests. Informative and entertaining.
Rationally Speaking
is the podcast of the New York skeptics. Massimo Pigliucci and Julia Galef explore the borderlands between science and nonsense.
Skepticality
Skepticality, the official podcast of Skeptic magazine, published by Michael Shermer's Skeptic Society. The moderators and Derek Swoopy presenting news, issues and interviews.
Point of Inquiry
Point of Inquiry is the podcast of the Center for Inquiry , the oldest organization skeptics at all. Several presenters cover the whole range of skeptical topics.
Monster Talk
In contrast to this is "Big Talk". The podcast focuses entirely on ... Monster. From Bigfoot to Loch Ness Monster. I did not think that you can fill an entire podcast series of entertaining with this issue, but the team at Monster Talk succeeds again and again. The podcast also comes from Skeptic Magazine.
Skeptoid
In Skeptoid we find a different approach. Brian Dunning examined in each case about five minutes Phänomän myths and everyday life, from the Bermuda Triangle to the pyramids.
The Skeptic Zone
with Podcast 'The Skeptic Zone' we leave the U.S. and go to Australia. Richard Saunders and Dr. Rachel Dunlop report from the other side of the world where there is a very active and successful skeptics scene.
skeptically Speaking
Back on the American continent: This podcast is the podcast edition of a Canadian live show. Hosted by Desiree Shell.
Skeptics with a K
Which brings us ended up in good old Europe: Skeptics with a K is a podcast of the Skeptics Merseyside, please come from England. Note: Not all the presenters speak BBC English. Informative and a good pinch of another British humor. Entertaining is the second podcast, Inkredulous .
Righteous Indignation Righteous Indignation
is another British-Irish Podcast (one of the moderators comes from the Irish "Skeptics in the Pub"), dealing with entertaining supernatural phenomena.
Little Atoms
skeptical Not always, but always interesting. Radio show as a podcast. Neil Denny, Padraig Reidy, Richard Sanderson, Rebecca Watson (if not exactly rumdüst in the world), interview interesting guests.
Super-Duper Woo-Fighting Duo (with capes!)
skeptics junior Rhys Morgan and Noodlemaz discuss - mainly - about Jim Humble and 'Miracle Mineral Solution' - otherwise known as chlorine bleach.
Humoralpathologie
is the only German-language podcast from the list. You make fun of here quite unabashedly esoteric. Welcome to Lemuria.
FM4 Science Busters
I get out of the series: Funny and entertaining science (less than five minutes per episode) from the ORF.
